Our second child is on its way. We've been preparing Amber with what I hope is a healthy angle. We've told her that she's baby #1 and that baby #2 is sleeping in mommy's tummy. A few weeks of this, and we're finally able to ask her: "Amber, where is baby #2?" And she'll say, "Sleeping." Then point to my tummy.
I told her one day that the baby is going to be happy to see her. Will she hug the baby? So she gets up and hugs my tummy.
A few weeks after that, we've got her all settled into her big-girl room. As she's leaving the room one morning, I stopped her, pointed in her old room and made some comments. "You don't need your old room anymore, let's think about giving it to the baby." She ignored me and kept going toward the stairs to go get her morning juice. I dropped the subject and didn't bring it up again. Then two days later, leaving her room together, she stops in the doorway of her old room, she looks up at me and says "Baby's room". We went into the room together and she tells me "baby's crib". Then she became very concerned that there was no pillow in the crib for the baby. :)
And now we've finally been able to tell her that she'll be getting a baby brother. She walks around saying "baby brother" occassionally. It's very cute.
